This book may be redundant for those travelers who have an Internet-enabled cell phone or other web device, but it will always 'work'; no internet connection necessary!

In summary, this book is a good reference tool, and would make a gift for the RV'ers and traveling pet lovers in your life.

Pet E. R. Guide by Melinda Lord
Paperback: 198 pages
Publisher: Trailer Life Books (January 2008)
ISBN-10: 0934798893
ISBN-13: 978-0934798891

While this book was intended for the RV lifestyle, everyone who travels with a pet can benefit. And, if you travel with a pet, what do you do if something happens to your pet along the way? Because, as well all know, emergencies always seem to happen at night, on a holiday or when you are away from home! A sudden illness or a run in with wild life can put them at risk. Where do you turn when you are away from home on the road?

This guide is a must have for anyone who travels with a pet. It is a directory of 24-hour and after-hours veterinary facilities throughout the United States. It will direct you to the nearest facility closest to you so you don't waste precious time trying to find a veterinarian in cities you are not familiar with. It will also provide you with their phone number, so you can call ahead and let them know you are coming. And, by calling ahead you can verify that they are still in business and what their hours of operation are.

There is also a section in back of the book for you to record your pet's information, from vaccinations to microchip numbers.

While you hope you never need it - you can't afford to be without it!

If you travel with pets the Pet E.R. Guide is a must have book. We are avid RVers and travel with our two dogs, Gracie & Buck, in our RV all the time. For a long time we traveled carefree, not really thinking something could or would happen to our pets while on the road. A few months ago, Gracie our Westie got extremely ill on a weekend and had to be taken to a 24 hour Veterinarian clinic. Fortunately we were at home and knew exactly where to go. This really opened our eyes about the possibility of needing to locate a veterinarian while on the road, in case of an emergency. I don't think Gracie would still be alive if we weren't able to get her to a vet quickly, like we did. With the Pet E.R. Guide we travel much more relaxed, knowing if something goes wrong we can locate the nearest vet to our current location. The book is also packed with great information on what to do if your pet has other problems on the road, like bee stings, heat exhaustion, or like in Gracie's case has a relapse from a prior medical problem. If you travel with your pets don't leave home without this book.
